Greenlight Music: Use List Update
Shortly after launching the Greenlight Music product we identified a number of additional usage licenses that needed to be added. However housing around 80 options in a single dropdown was cumbersome and they asked me to address the issue for an upcoming release.
To mitigate losing conversions, we didn’t want to make the form any bigger than it was so the use list form input remained a standard dropdown.
The first thing I did was to update the taxonomy of the use list, creating four main categories the uses fit under. The order of the categories was selected based on customer usage at the time with ‘Corporate’ being the most popular and the use list modal was updated to an accordion style menu system. Users were able to scroll through the use list for each category and select by clicking anywhere on the list element. Additional links were provided to hide/show descriptions for the uses and provide a link to our FAQs.
Additional Thoughts
This was not a big project but it was one of my earliest projects that included an element of taxonomy. I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed the process of taxonomy until this project and it ended up being great experience for later. The layer was updated and tested quickly after submitting my designs and performed well after it’s launch.
